The newly appointed Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kwara State, Abbas Nda Mohammed, has issued a strong warning to criminal elements, declaring that the state will not serve as a refuge for unlawful activities.
Mohammed officially assumed office on Monday, April 14, 2026, becoming the 16th commandant of the corps in the state. He takes over from Bala Bodinga Bawa, who has been redeployed to the agency’s national headquarters in Abuja, barely a month after his appointment.
The swift redeployment highlights an ongoing administrative reshuffle within the NSCDC.
With over 20 years of service, Mohammed brings extensive experience to his new role. He has held several strategic positions nationwide, including serving at the Zone 4 Headquarters in Minna. His past roles also include Head of Operations at the NSCDC Kwara Command, Head of the Anti-Vandal Unit in Niger State, Area Commander in Kainji LGA, and Divisional Officer in Edati LGA.
Additionally, he has led the Counter-Terrorism Unit in Zamfara State and occupied multiple leadership positions within the Federal Capital Territory Command. Prior to this appointment, he was Commandant at the Zone 4 Headquarters in Minna.
Speaking shortly after taking over, Mohammed reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Kwara State. He emphasized that protecting critical national assets and infrastructure would remain a top priority, alongside strengthening intelligence-led operations.
He delivered a firm message to criminals, vandals, and economic saboteurs, urging them to stay away from the state.
“Kwara State will not be a safe haven for criminals. We are fully prepared to deploy all necessary operational strategies to ensure the safety and security of lives and property,” he stated.
The new commandant also stressed the importance of collaboration, pledging to work closely with other security agencies, traditional rulers, and key stakeholders to enhance peace and stability.
He assured residents that the NSCDC under his leadership would adopt proactive and decisive strategies to combat all forms of criminal activity and maintain law and order across the state.
