“She blocked me from seeing her status” — Lady ends childhood friendship over WhatsApp status

A young woman has sparked conversations online after revealing why she abruptly ended a long-standing friendship with her childhood best friend over a birthday incident.

The lady, who shared her experience on social media on Tuesday, said the fallout occurred after she noticed her friend failed to directly acknowledge her birthday despite publicly posting about it.

The revelation has since generated mixed reactions, with many users debating boundaries, trust, and transparency in friendships.

Discovery sparks suspicion

According to the lady, she reached out to her friend a day after her birthday to ask why she had not been celebrated personally, only to receive screenshots as proof of a public post.

“On my birthday, she posted me on her status. The next day, I texted her to ask if she had forgotten. She sent screenshots showing she posted me, that’s when I realised she had been hiding her statuses from me all along,” she said.

Friendship ends abruptly

Disturbed by the discovery, the woman said she immediately cut ties, citing a breach of trust and long-standing instincts about unusual behaviour.

“I simply called things off because why would you hide statuses from your best friend? I blocked her everywhere. This is someone I’ve known since primary school. My instincts had been telling me something was off, and I chose not to ignore it,” she added.

Similar friendship disputes have gained traction online in recent years, particularly involving social media interactions and perceived loyalty, reflecting evolving expectations in digital-age relationships.
