Tinubu Jokes About Sending Akpabio to “Scatter” Opposition, Sparks Light Moment at Abuja Event
President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday caused laughter at the inauguration of the Nigeria Revenue Service headquarters in Abuja after joking that Senate President Godswill Akpabio could be “deployed” to the opposition camp to destabilise them.
Speaking in a lighthearted tone during his address, President Tinubu suggested that Akpabio’s political influence could be used strategically against rival parties, adding humorously that the opposition was already “confused.”
The President remarked that if given the assignment, Akpabio could “go to the other side” on his behalf and create disruption among opposition ranks, a comment that drew laughter from attendees at the event.
He rounded off his speech with a patriotic message, wishing success for the country and those involved in revenue administration.
Earlier at the same event, Senate President Godswill Akpabio had praised Tinubu’s leadership and ongoing reforms. He also alleged that some opposition figures, driven by political rivalry ahead of elections, were attempting to undermine the administration by exploiting insecurity challenges.
Akpabio suggested that recent security incidents were politically motivated and intended to create fear and distract the government from governance.
The remarks and counterremarks added a political tone to the otherwise formal inauguration ceremony, which focused on strengthening Nigeria’s revenue administration system.
