Lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has lost his bid to secure another term in office after suffering defeat in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election.
The former Lagos State Special Adviser on Housing, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, emerged victorious in the primary held on Wednesday.
Odunuga-Bakare, who reportedly enjoyed the backing of the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, secured a landslide victory over Elliot across the constituency.
She polled a total of 11,385 votes, while Elliot managed to secure only 270 votes in the exercise.
The APC primary recorded a large turnout of party members, with results from several wards showing overwhelming support for Odunuga-Bakare.
At Akinhanmi/Cole Ward, she scored 2,191 votes against Elliot’s 82 votes. In Yaba/Ojuelegba Ward, she secured 980 votes, while Elliot got only three votes.
At Gbaja Stadium Ward, Odunuga-Bakare polled 523 votes as Elliot failed to record any vote.
Elliot’s best outing came at Shitta/Ogunlana Ward, where he scored 270 votes, defeating Odunuga-Bakare, who polled 169 votes.
At Owolewa Open Field, Off Randle Avenue, Odunuga-Bakare recorded 1,956 votes, while Elliot got 10 votes. In Iponri/Eric Moore Ward, she secured 1,805 votes against Elliot’s six votes.
Desmond Elliot was first elected into the Lagos State House of Assembly in 2015 and has represented Surulere Constituency I for multiple terms.
