Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries ahead of the state election.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the governor said his decision followed extensive consultations with family, friends, and political associates.
Fubara explained that although the decision was difficult, he chose to step aside in the interest of peace, unity, and stability in Rivers State, stressing that leadership sometimes requires personal sacrifice for the greater good.
The governor pledged his support for whoever emerges as the APC candidate, adding that the interest of Rivers State must remain above personal ambition.
He also appreciated his supporters for their loyalty, sacrifices, prayers, and commitment throughout the political process, acknowledging the disappointment many may feel over his withdrawal.
According to him, his silence in recent weeks was intentional and guided by the need to protect the larger interest of the state.
Fubara hinted that he had faced significant political pressure and difficult decisions but maintained that his love for Rivers State remained unwavering.
The Rivers governor thanked the APC leadership for giving him a platform and also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his encouragement and support.
He urged party members and supporters to remain united and committed to the progress of the APC and Rivers State.
Fubara further clarified that his withdrawal should not be seen as an act of fear, weakness, or surrender, but rather a personal sacrifice aimed at preserving peace and unity in the state.
He reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of Rivers State until the end of his tenure.
