A 2027 presidential aspirant of the Democratic Leadership Alliance, Mrs Abisayo Busari-Akinnadeju, has resigned from the party and demanded a refund of her presidential nomination fee, citing alleged irregularities in its primary election process.
In a resignation letter addressed to the party’s National Chairman, Busari-Akinnadeju said her decision was triggered by what she described as the party’s failure to conduct a free, fair, and credible primary election.
She also criticised the party’s reported adoption of a consensus arrangement, describing it as damaging to internal democracy and the party’s long-term credibility.
“I do not resign in defeat. I resign because I am not permitted a fair contest, and I will not lend my name to a process that has abandoned its own rules,” she said.
The former party member formally requested written acknowledgment of her resignation, a refund of her presidential nomination fee, and the return of all personal documents submitted during her time in the party.
She further stressed that the refund request was based on the party’s failure to provide what she called a “fair and lawful primary.”
Busari-Akinnadeju also expressed appreciation to party members nationwide who supported her political ambitions, noting that they were not responsible for her exit.
“The record speaks plainly… a party that cannot conduct a fair primary among its own aspirants cannot credibly promise a fair country to its citizens,” she added.
Despite her resignation, she reaffirmed her commitment to the 2027 presidential race and her “Dare Nigeria” agenda, insisting her political drive remained unchanged.
She said her experience within the party had only strengthened her belief in the need for political reform, adding that she would continue her ambition on a more credible platform.
The Ondo-born politician, who hails from Akungba Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government Area, Ondo State, said she initially joined the party believing it would provide a strong democratic platform but now feels otherwise.
