A former Senior Special Assistant to ex-Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, Musa Muhammad Kamarawa, has alleged that missing lecturer and government critic, Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata, was killed in his presence.
Kamarawa’s claim, written in Hausa, is currently circulating on social media.
The allegation has sparked renewed calls for an investigation into the disappearance of Dadiyata, who was abducted by gunmen from his home in Kaduna on August 1, 2019, and has remained missing since then.
Kamarawa had on Thursday written a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, alleging threats by some police officers.
He accused two senior police officers, CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba, of alleged extortion, illegal house search, seizure of property and conducting what he described as a “partial investigation” against him.
In the petition, Kamarawa alleged that the officers forced him to conceal details of his relationship with Matawalle, who is now the Minister of State for Defence, during interrogation sessions.
He wrote, “In the cause of investigation, I was coarse by them I shouldn’t make any attempt to disclose my relationship with former Governor of Zamfara State Dr Bello Matawalle current State Minister of Defence that was the main reason in all the Vedio clips they recorded on me under duress I have never disclosed our relationship with him because they treat to kill me as they killed Dadiyata and Saminu S/Fada Gusau amongst others in my presence at Operations Yaki Kaduna but they keep asking my relationship with my uncle former Governor of Sokoto State Alh Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa who was their main target as instructed by Matawallen Maradun.
“My concern is that I was the SSA to Matawallen Maradun during his tenure as a Governor in Zamfara State, but why have they never allowed me to mention even in my statement, which I wrote under duress, hence there’s a need to investigate the motive behind these. Attached herewith is my letter of Appointment as SSA.”
A political commentator, Imran Wakili, who shared a post containing the allegation on 𝕏, said Kamarawa’s claim presented an opportunity to uncover the truth about Dadiyata’s disappearance.
Wakili said, “Such a statement cannot be ignored, brushed aside, or treated as ordinary political talk. It demands a thorough, transparent, and independent investigation.”
Also reacting, a counter-insurgency and security journalist in North-West Nigeria, Bakatsine, called on authorities to investigate the allegation transparently.
Bakatsine wrote, “This is a weighty accusation involving enforced disappearance and alleged extrajudicial killings. The authorities must investigate transparently, and those responsible if found guilty must face justice.”
Dadiyata, a lecturer and outspoken government critic, disappeared after he was abducted from his Kaduna home on August 1, 2019.
His disappearance was widely linked to his critical social media commentary, especially on northern state governments.
Kamarawa also alleged in his petition that the officers repeatedly questioned him about his relationship with former Sokoto State Governor, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, whom he claimed was their “main target.”
