FCT Council Speaker, Aide Killed In Abuja-Lokoja Highway Crash

The Speaker of the Gwagwalada Area Council Legislative Arm in the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Ibrahim Ibwa, and his aide, Ibrahim Ibwa, have died following a fatal road accident along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.

The tragic crash occurred around 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday near Sheda village and involved a Mercedes-Benz car and a Sino truck.

Reports indicated that the Speaker’s aide died instantly at the scene, while Mohammed Ibwa succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Thursday at the Abuja Teaching Hospital. He had earlier received treatment at Legend Hospital in Gwagwalada before being referred.

According to sources, the Speaker was travelling with two other occupants in the Mercedes-Benz when the vehicle collided head-on with the truck near Sheda village. One of the passengers reportedly survived the accident and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The victims were said to be returning to Gwagwalada from Kwali, where they had attended a political meeting before the unfortunate incident occurred.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who confirmed the accident anonymously, disclosed that one victim died on the spot, while two others, including the Speaker, were rescued and rushed to the hospital.

The FRSC official added that the deceased aide’s body was deposited at the mortuary of Legend Hospital in Gwagwalada.

Meanwhile, the late Speaker has since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites in his Ibwa community within the Gwagwalada Area Council.

The incident has left the council area and members of the deceased’s community in deep mourning.
