The Federal Government has approved a new consolidated salary structure for workers of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).
Papers News reports that it also approved updated conditions of service for the agency’s staff.
The approval was sent through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
In a letter dated April 29, 2026, and signed by Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the new salary structure was confirmed to take effect from June 1, 2026.
The document also showed that the decision followed an earlier request from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission in a letter dated March 23, 2026.
“I am directed to convey that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has approved the recommended consolidated salary structure for NiMet with an effective date of June 1, 2026,” the letter stated
With this development, NiMet staff will move into a new pay arrangement once implementation begins in June 2026.
In other news, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has said a monthly salary of ₦1 million will not be meaningful to Nigerian workers if the country does not have a stable currency and stronger economy.
Papers News reports that Ajaero in an interview with NAN on Tuesday in Abuja, said workers are more concerned about the value of the naira than just increases in salary.
