The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has expressed satisfaction with the level of work done at the Gusau International Airport in Zamfara State, clearing the facility for potential use in the 2026 Hajj operations.
A technical delegation from the NCAA carried out an inspection of key airport facilities as part of the final assessment process ahead of operational approval. The team was led by the General Manager, Aerodrome and Airspace Standards, Bayode B.S., who was represented by Director Ahmad Abba.
During the visit, the delegation evaluated major infrastructure at the airport, including the runway, terminal building, and control tower. The inspectors noted that the construction quality met required aviation safety and operational standards.
The NCAA commended the Zamfara State Government for what it described as a strong commitment to delivering a safe and modern aviation facility. Officials said the project reflects compliance with national aviation requirements and readiness for passenger operations.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Lawal Barau Bungudu, accompanied the inspection team alongside other government officials during the facility tour.
Authorities indicated that the inspection represents one of the final stages before the airport’s formal commissioning. When fully operational, the airport is expected to improve air travel connectivity in Zamfara State and enhance economic activities across the region.
It is also expected to ease travel for intending pilgrims during Hajj operations, while boosting logistics, trade, and tourism opportunities.
The NCAA further noted that the standard of construction and adherence to safety regulations were encouraging, adding that the airport shows strong potential for safe aviation operations.
The Zamfara State Government described the inspection as a key milestone, saying the positive assessment reflects its focus on safety, infrastructure quality, and long-term development goals for the state’s aviation sector.
