The President of the MAAUN Group of Universities, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has described the death of former Voice of America, VOA, correspondent and veteran journalist, Saleh Shehu Ashaka, as a monumental loss to the media industry and the nation at large.
Mr Gwarzo said the late Ashaka lived a life of impact and dedicated service, noting that he upheld the ethics, values, and professionalism of journalism throughout his distinguished career.
In a condolence message, Mr Gwarzo described Ashaka as a committed and respected journalist whose work earned him admiration both within and outside Nigeria.
“Saleh was not only an outstanding journalist but also a philanthropist who touched countless lives. The overwhelming tributes pouring in from across the country speak volumes about his character as a humble, kind-hearted, and generous individual,” he said.
He further recalled that Ashaka was among the finest correspondents produced by VOA, admired for his calm voice, professionalism, and balanced style of reporting, qualities that endeared him to audiences over the years.
According to Mr Gwarzo, the veteran journalist’s death has created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill, especially at a time when the media industry is in dire need of experienced and principled voices.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and professional colleagues of the deceased, praying to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give those he left behind the strength to bear the loss.
