The senator representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, Abdul Ningi, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party after nearly three decades of membership.
Naija News reports that Ningi announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ningi Ward in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
In the letter, the senator said his decision followed extensive consultations with his political associates, stakeholders, and supporters. He noted that he joined the PDP in 1998 and had remained with the party for over 28 years.
During his long political career under the PDP platform, Ningi served as a two-term member of the House of Representatives and later as a two-term senator.
He described the PDP as once a dominant political force in Africa, credited with strong ideological foundations, unity, and commitment to democratic governance.
However, he said the party had been weakened by internal crises, leadership disputes, and factional divisions, which he claimed had eroded its structure and cohesion.
“It is now a great concern and worrisome to me that this virile and united platform could be turned into a ramshackle organisation with internal leadership wrangling and factional interests,” he wrote.
Ningi added that leaving the party was one of the most difficult decisions of his political life, stressing that the PDP had provided him the platform to serve his constituency and the country.
He also expressed gratitude to party leaders at all levels who supported him throughout his political journey, saying he remains appreciative of his time in the party.
“As I continue my political career outside the Peoples Democratic Party, please accept my best regards,” he concluded.
