Yayi Emerges Ogun APC Governorship Candidate With Over 304,000 Votes

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the winner of the party’s governorship primary election in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 general election.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District in the Senate, secured a total of 304,055 votes during the primary conducted across the 20 local government areas of the state on Thursday.
The chairman of the Ogun State Governorship Electoral Committee, Wale Ohu, announced the result after the collation process, revealing that 305,287 accredited party members participated in the exercise.
According to Ohu, Adeola’s only opponent, Abayomi Samako Hunye, failed to record any vote in the primary.
He subsequently declared Adeola as the duly elected APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Ogun State, adding that the outcome of the exercise would be forwarded to the party’s National Working Committee for official ratification.
Following the announcement, Adeola thanked President Bola Tinubu for his guidance and support throughout his political career.
The senator noted that Tinubu played a significant role in his political growth, beginning from his days in the Lagos State House of Assembly to his time in the House of Representatives and now the Senate, where he is serving a third term.
Adeola also expressed appreciation to former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba and the current governor, Dapo Abiodun, for supporting his emergence as the party’s consensus candidate.
He commended APC leaders, stakeholders, delegates and members in the state for maintaining peace and unity throughout the primary process.
The APC candidate pledged not to disappoint the party and promised to build on the achievements of Governor Abiodun if elected in 2027.
Adeola said his administration would focus on inclusive development, improved infrastructure, economic growth and policies aimed at improving the welfare of residents across Ogun State.
Speaking after the exercise, Governor Abiodun praised the peaceful conduct of the primaries, describing it as a reflection of the party’s unity and discipline.
He said APC members in the state placed the party’s collective interest above personal ambition, adding that such sacrifices contributed to the successful outcome of the exercise.
Party supporters and leaders also described the primary as a major boost for the APC’s ambition to retain power in Ogun State during the 2027 governorship election.
