Mrs Olufunmilayo Adelabu, mother of former Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, has shared an emotional account of how she cried over the abduction of schoolchildren in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, only for her own daughter and twin grandsons to be kidnapped a day later.
Speaking in a viral video released after the safe rescue of her daughter, Olaide Adegoke, and her twin sons, she expressed deep gratitude to God and security operatives for their release.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 3, 2026, in Ibadan, when Olaide and the children were abducted by armed men. They were later rescued unhurt on Saturday night during a police operation that also resulted in the killing of two suspected kidnappers.
Recounting her relief, Mrs Adelabu described the experience as overwhelming, saying she was thankful to see all three victims return home safely. She also appreciated everyone who played a role in securing their release.
She further revealed that she had been deeply affected by earlier abductions in Oriire LGA, where more than 40 pupils and teachers were kidnapped, saying she wept after seeing reports of the incident before her own family tragedy unfolded.
“A day before my children’s incident, I cried when I saw those children on the phone, not knowing it would happen to me the next day,” she said.
While praying for the release of other abducted victims still in captivity, she expressed hope that they would return home safely and alive. She also called for divine intervention in addressing insecurity in Nigeria and urged government action to prevent further incidents.
The latest rescue comes amid rising concerns over kidnapping cases in parts of Oyo State, particularly in rural and semi-urban communities, following the high-profile Oriire abduction.
