2027: Why I can bet money on Tinubu’s re-election — Davido + Video

Nigerian music superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has weighed in on the 2027 presidential race, declaring that a fractured opposition leaves President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a strong position to secure a second term.
Davido made the assessment during an interview with News Central on Tuesday while discussing Nigeria’s political landscape and the outcome of the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.
The singer said his prediction was based less on personal support for Tinubu than on what he described as the inability of opposition politicians to form a united political force capable of challenging the incumbent.
According to him, the situation in the South alone illustrates the problem clearly, with nearly eight politicians believed to be angling for the presidency at the same time.
He argued that if those same figures could put aside personal ambition and rally behind a single candidate, the incumbent would face a far more difficult contest.
Despite his assessment of Tinubu’s advantage, Davido said the recently concluded Osun governorship election had given him some optimism about Nigeria’s political future.
He said, “The opposition now in Nigeria, if they’re going to say, ‘OK, David, put your money down, this one, I have to decide.’ It is not, ‘Oh, I don’t want to be involved in the presidential election.’
“I might say, ‘OK, I think the president might walk over on it’ because the opposition is divided.
“In the South alone, almost eight people want to be president. Why can’t all of you guys sit down together?
“Because let me tell you, if there was a unified opposition, presidents might have a problem. But they’re not unified.
“So it’s going to take a lot. But for what happened in Osun, there’s still hope. All the youths in Nigeria were the future, were the ones in charge now.”
The singer had earlier distanced himself from Nigerian politics, saying he had no interest in participating in the country’s political system, which he described as “evil.”
Davido made the remarks in a post on X while reacting to criticism over his support for his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, during the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.
He said his involvement in the election was based on family loyalty, stressing that he did not mobilise anyone or depend on external support while backing his uncle.
“I brought no one! No one defended me! I backed my family on my own!!” Davido wrote.
He also criticised those who faulted his involvement in the election, describing their actions as “ruthless” and “disgusting.”
The singer said he had fulfilled what he considered his responsibility and would not remain involved in political activities.
“I have done my job! Nigerian politics is evil AND I DON’T WANT TO BE A PART OF IT TILL GOD HELPS US!” he said.
Davido was among the prominent figures who campaigned for Adeleke during the Osun governorship race.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, secured 511,067 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
