Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, has warned car spotters operating along the Lekki-Epe Expressway to desist from the activity, describing their actions as criminal.
Hamzat issued the warning during a live interview on Nigeria Info FM’s Daily Digest with Jimi Disu, following complaints about individuals stopping and chasing luxury vehicles along the Lekki axis to film content.
Responding to Disu’s call for him to use his position to address the situation, Hamzat said the government had commenced action against the car spotters.
He said, “That is criminal, and therefore we will not allow it. We will take a lot of them off the streets.”
Disu had drawn Hamzat’s attention to what he described as the activities of “these boys stopping luxury cars and so on and so forth” around the roundabout on the road leading to Lekki.
Hamzat further disclosed that several people had already been arrested in connection with such activities, adding that surveillance cameras installed along the road had helped in identifying those involved.
“Well a lot of people have been arrested… lot of cameras are also.. on that road and people have been seen and I can show you people, some people are in the magistrate court today,” he said.
According to the deputy governor, some of those arrested were taken into custody around the end of the previous weekend and were already facing proceedings before a magistrate court.
He said the government would continue to take action against individuals involved in activities it considers criminal along the Lekki-Epe axis.
The warning comes amid complaints about car spotters allegedly stopping luxury vehicles on the road while attempting to capture them for social media content.
