The Nigerian Army has approved the redeployment and appointment of several senior officers to strategic command, operational and administrative positions across its formations.
The changes were approved by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, as part of efforts to strengthen operational effectiveness and align the Army’s leadership structure with Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday.
According to Anele, the latest postings are designed to place officers with the required experience and expertise in critical positions, particularly within key operational theatres and strategic formations.
Under the new arrangement, Major General IA Ajose has been redeployed from the Army Headquarters Department of Army Operations to the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, where he will serve as Theatre Commander.
Major General AE Abubakar, who previously served in Operation HADIN KAI, has been moved to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre (NAHFC) as Dean, Faculty of Operational Research.
Also, Major General AM Alechenu has been redeployed from the Defence Headquarters Garrison to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, while Major General RT Utsaha moves from the Army Headquarters Department of Army Standards and Evaluation to the Defence Headquarters Garrison as Commander.
Major General AM Umar has been transferred from the Department of Civil-Military Affairs to the Army War College Nigeria as Commandant. In a reciprocal move, Major General UM Alkali leaves the Army War College Nigeria for the Department of Civil-Military Affairs.
Major General GS Muhammed moves from the Office of the National Security Adviser to the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation as Director General.
Major General JE Osifo has also been redeployed from the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation to the Military Pension Board as Chairman, while Major General IE Ekpenyong moves to the Defence Headquarters Department of Defence Logistics as Director of Engineering Services.
Brigade and Garrison Commanders
At the operational level, Brigadier General AA Bello has been redeployed from the 6 Division Garrison/Sector 3 Joint Task Force South-South, Operation DELTA SAFE, to the Defence Headquarters Department of Defence Operations.
Brigadier General MS Adamu moves from the Nigerian Army Women Command to the newly established 8 Brigade as Commander.
Brigadier General MS Sule has also been transferred from Special Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE to the 27 Task Force Brigade as Commander.
Similarly, Brigadier General I Sule moves from the Directorate of Recruitment Management to the 6 Division Garrison as Commander.
Brigadier General E Azenda has been redeployed from the Land Forces Simulation Centre to the 2 Division Garrison as Commander, while Brigadier General AS Bugaje moves from the 2 Division Garrison to the Land Forces Simulation Centre as Director of Administration.
The Chief of Army Staff charged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence placed in them through professionalism, exemplary leadership, operational innovation and dedication to duty.
Lieutenant General Shaibu further tasked the officers with remaining focused on the constitutional responsibility of defending Nigeria’s sovereignty, protecting its territorial integrity and supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security.
The Army said the latest leadership changes are part of its broader effort to maintain a dynamic force-employment structure, improve operational outcomes and strengthen coordination with other security agencies.
The Service added that it would continue to enhance its capacity to respond effectively to both existing and emerging security threats in support of Nigeria’s national security objectives.
