Adeyanju Condemns Attack On Sowore In Ekiti

Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has condemned an attack on the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, in Ekiti State.

Adeyanju, in a statement, said he was informed of the incident by one of Sowore’s aides.

The campaign organisation of Sowore, who is the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) for the 2027 election, had said Sowore was attacked at about 1:00 p.m. on Friday, adding that Sowore’s whereabouts remained unknown after the attack.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Abdulkareem Musa, the Sowore/Magashi Presidential Election Campaign said it was gravely concerned about the incident and demanded immediate intervention by the relevant authorities.

“The whereabouts of Omoyele Sowore is currently unknown following the attack. The full circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, but we consider this development a serious security concern and therefore demand the immediate attention of the relevant authorities,” the statement said.

Reacting, Adeyanju expressed concern over reports that a police officer attached to Sowore was disarmed during the attack.

“I strongly condemn this brazen act of violence and political intimidation. There is absolutely no place for such lawlessness in a democracy,” Adeyanju said.

He called on security agencies to immediately investigate the incident, ensure Sowore’s safety and bring those responsible to justice.

“I call on the relevant security agencies to immediately investigate the incident, ensure Mr Sowore’s safety and bring all those responsible to justice,” he added.
