Daud Olatunji

Elder statesman and National Leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, has died at the age of 100.

His death was announced on Tuesday by the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in a statement personally signed by him in Akure, the state capital.

Aiyedatiwa described the late Fasoranti as a revered elder statesman whose century-long life was defined by wisdom, integrity and selfless service to Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria.

The governor said the deceased’s contributions to the development of the state and the Yoruba nation, as well as his principled positions on justice and good governance, would remain part of his enduring legacy.

In the statement, Aiyedatiwa expressed sadness over the passing of the Afenifere leader, while acknowledging the impact of his leadership and counsel on the state and the country.

He said, “With a heavy heart but with total submission to the will of God, I announce the passing of our revered elder statesman, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, who departed this world at the glorious age of 100.”

Describing Fasoranti as a patriarch and a symbol of integrity, the governor said the late statesman devoted his life to the service of his people.

“Pa Fasoranti was a patriarch, a beacon of wisdom, integrity and selfless service whose century-long life was marked by uncommon commitment to the development of our dear state, Yorubaland and Nigeria at large,” he added.

Aiyedatiwa noted that the late Afenifere leader’s fatherly guidance and principled stance on issues affecting society would be greatly missed.

“His counsel, fatherly guidance and principled stand on issues of justice and good governance will be sorely missed.

“He lived a fulfilled life and left indelible footprints of honour and legacy for generations to come,” the governor stated.

The Ondo governor, on behalf of the state government and its people, extended his condolences to the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom and the entire state over the loss.

He also prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul, saying, “May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that Fasoranti’s death marks the end of a century-long life associated with public service and leadership within the Yoruba socio-political space.

The late elder statesman’s passing is expected to draw tributes from political leaders, traditional institutions, socio-cultural organisations and other Nigerians who valued his contributions to public affairs.
