Lagos Secures N26.2m Refunds For Ikeja Electric Customers

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has facilitated N26.24m in credit adjustments and refunds for electricity consumers following complaints against Ikeja Electric Distribution Company between January and September 2026.
According to a statement shared by the Lagos State government on its social media on Thursday, the agency also resolved 528 of the 556 complaints received against the electricity distribution company during the nine months, leaving 28 cases ongoing.
The resolutions represent a complaint resolution rate of approximately 95 per cent, highlighting the agency’s intervention in addressing consumer grievances and securing redress for affected customers.
The General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to promoting fairness, accountability, transparency and improved service delivery in the electricity distribution sector.
The agency facilitated credit adjustments and refunds totalling N26,243,758.75 for affected consumers through regulatory intervention, consumer advocacy and mediation.
The Head of LASCOPA’s Complaints and Mediation Department, Yusuf Musiliu, said the agency receives and analyses complaints submitted through online and offline channels.
He explained that the agency’s monthly stakeholders’ parley provides a platform for Ikeja Electric officials and affected consumers to discuss grievances, reach mutually acceptable agreements and resolve disputes amicably.
Musiliu urged aggrieved consumers to follow established procedures for seeking redress rather than resorting to self-help.
He advised consumers to submit supporting documents, including electricity bills, payment receipts and other relevant evidence, when filing complaints to facilitate investigations and ensure timely resolution.
According to him, LASCOPA holds its stakeholders’ parley with Ikeja Electric on the last Thursday of every month, providing a regular forum for consumers to present unresolved complaints and engage directly with the electricity distribution company.
The agency encouraged residents to report billing disputes, estimated billing, overbilling, electricity supply challenges and other unfair practices promptly.
LASCOPA reiterated its commitment to protecting consumers and promoting accountability among service providers in line with its mandate and the Lagos State Consumer Protection Law 2025, as amended.
Solebo urged residents to report complaints and seek assistance through the agency’s toll-free helpline, 080 0005 2726, available on weekdays, or by email at lasgcopa@gmail.com.
