BREAKING: Budget Commissioner, SA Resign From Makinde’s Government

Two more appointees of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde have resigned from his administration ahead of the 2027 geberal election.

The latest departures involve the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Ayobami Oluwaseun Ojo, and the Special Adviser on Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Simeon Adegbola Oyeleke.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that both officials submitted their resignation letters on Monday, November 2, announcing that their decisions would take immediate effect.

Ojo, in his resignation letter addressed to Makinde through the Secretary to the State Government, said he was formally relinquishing his appointment as Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning.

The letter, dated November 2, 2026, referenced his appointment letter of June 22, 2026, with reference number SP.S.662/2/VOL.IV/192.

He wrote, “I respectfully write to formally resign my appointment as Honourable Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, with effect from today, 2nd November, 2026.”

The former commissioner expressed appreciation to the governor for giving him the opportunity to serve in his administration, describing his time in office as a great honour.

“I want to express my sincere appreciation for the opportunity to serve our dear State under the administration of Your Excellency. Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour that I do not take lightly,” he stated.

Ojo, however, did not disclose any reason for his resignation or indicate whether his decision was connected to the political developments in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.

Similarly, Oyeleke tendered his resignation as Special Adviser on Budget and Economic Planning in a separate letter addressed to Makinde through the Office of the Chief of Staff.

In the letter dated November 2, 2026, Oyeleke formally announced his decision to leave the position, also with immediate effect.

“I write to formally tender my resignation from my appointment as Special Adviser on Budget and Economic Planning with effect from 2nd November, 2026,” he stated.

Oyeleke also expressed gratitude to the governor for the confidence reposed in him and the opportunity to serve the state.

He said it had been an honour to contribute to the administration’s vision, policies and developmental programmes.

“I wish to express my profound gratitude to Your Excellency for the confidence reposed in me and the privilege and opportunity given to me to serve in this capacity. It has been a great honour to contribute in my own little way to the administration’s vision, policies and developmental programmes for the good people of Oyo State,” he wrote.

The former special adviser further appreciated Makinde’s leadership, encouragement and support throughout his period of service.

“I sincerely appreciate Your Excellency’s leadership, encouragement, support and the invaluable experience I have gained during my period of service. I remain grateful for the opportunity to have been part of this administration and to have contributed to its laudable achievements,” he added.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to the peace, progress and development of Oyo State.

Neither Ojo nor Oyeleke provided specific reasons for their decisions in their respective resignation letters.

Their departures come amid a series of resignations and reported political disagreements within Makinde’s administration ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Recall that the governor’s Chief of Staff, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, resigned from his position on October 12.

Ogunwuyi, in his resignation letter, said his departure from the position took immediate effect but did not disclose the reason behind his decision.

However, reports subsequently linked his resignation to alleged disagreements over Makinde’s preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

According to reports, Ogunwuyi was reportedly disappointed after Makinde allegedly shifted his support to Bimbo Adekanmbi, a former Oyo State Commissioner for Finance, instead of backing him for the governorship position.

The claims have also fuelled speculation about possible political realignments within the governor’s camp ahead of the next election.

Ogunwuyi, who previously served as Makinde’s Executive Assistant on Investment and Director-General of the Oyo State Investment and Public-Private Partnership Agency, was appointed Chief of Staff in July 2021.

Following his resignation, Makinde appointed Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole as his replacement.
