2027: I’m Ready to Serve as Obi’s Running Mate – Kwankwaso

Former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed openness to becoming the vice-presidential candidate to 2023 Labour Party presidential flag bearer, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso made the statement on Monday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, where he discussed possible political alliances under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

He said he would be willing to work with Obi if the party decides to present them as a joint ticket, stressing that both of them share a common commitment to addressing Nigeria’s insecurity challenges.

According to him, “Both my humble self and Peter Obi have agreed to tackle insecurity head-on to ensure peace and stability in the country.”

When asked directly if he would accept a vice-presidential slot should Obi emerge as the NDC presidential candidate, Kwankwaso answered in the affirmative, noting that he would be glad to collaborate.

“If the party decides that I should serve as running mate to any southern candidate under the circumstances, I will be happy to work together,” he said, adding that he believes such a partnership would be difficult to surpass in terms of delivering good governance.

Kwankwaso and Obi are both recent entrants into the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), having previously been associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at different times.
