Blessing Fubara Secures NDC Governorship Form for 2027 Rivers Race

A Rivers State politician, Blessing Fubara, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)).
According to reports, Fubara has already obtained both the nomination and expression of interest forms for the governorship race in Rivers State.
Although he shares the same surname and originates from the Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State as the sitting governor, Siminalayi Fubara, it has not been confirmed whether both individuals are related.
The Rivers State Chairman of the NDC, Success Jack, confirmed Blessing Fubara’s aspiration, noting that he collected his forms in Abuja alongside other party activities. However, he also stated that the party could not verify any familial connection between the aspirant and the incumbent governor.
He said the party remains confident about its prospects in the coming elections, adding that it is fully preparing to contest and aim for victory across all positions in the 2027 general elections.
Recall that Blessing Fubara recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the NDC about two weeks ago.
After his defection, he was received in Abuja by the National Leader of the party, Senator Seriake Dickson, alongside other stakeholders. He described the NDC as a “moving train” and said his decision to join was driven by the interest of Rivers State residents.
He also remarked that the “soul of Rivers State is at stake,” insisting that residents must reclaim control of their state, while expressing optimism that the state would “be okay” after the 2027 elections.
