NDC Zones 2027 Presidential Ticket To South, 2031 Ticket To North

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday, officially announced that the party’s 2027 presidential ticket has been zoned to the south.
The announcement, which was made during the NDC National Convention in Abuja, explained that the party’s presidential ticket will go to the south for a single four-year term in 2027, and then to the North in 2031.
The party clarified that its decision is based on the principles of power-sharing and rotation between the Northern and Southern regions of Nigeria.
The NDC said its decision was taken in the supreme interest of national healing and to douse sectional tension and to guarantee that the NDC remains a party for all Nigerians.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has rejected suggestions that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is working for the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 election.
Onanuga made the denial in a statement on Wednesday via his 𝕏 account in which he reacted to a claim by former Kogi Senator, Dino Melaye, on the defection of Peter Obi from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC.
Papers News reports that Melaye had criticized Obi, suggesting the former Governor of Anambra State is afraid of contesting a primary election but prefers to be handed the ticket.
He concluded by saying the NDC is an agency of the APC.
