Uzodimma Still PGF Chairman, Rift Overstated – Uba Sani Clarifies APC Governors’ Dispute
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has dismissed reports of a leadership crisis within the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), insisting that the alleged rift among APC governors has been exaggerated.
Speaking on Monday during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, Sani described the controversy as a minor misunderstanding rather than a serious division within the forum.
Naija News reports that speculation had emerged last week claiming that the governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, had been removed as chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and replaced by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah following a tense meeting in Abuja.
The reports further suggested that the forum had split into opposing blocs, with some governors allegedly aligning with Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
However, the situation was later calmed after a vote of confidence was reportedly passed in favour of Uzodimma by governors loyal to him during a meeting at the Imo State Lodge in Abuja. President Bola Tinubu was also said to have intervened to help resolve the tension.
Addressing the controversy, Sani, who serves as vice-chairman of the PGF, stressed that there had been no change in leadership.
“At the moment, there’s no problem. All the governors are together. His Excellency Hope Uzodimma is the chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum,” he said.
He added, “My humble self, Senator Uba Sani, is the vice chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum.”
The Kaduna governor noted that disagreements are normal in democratic settings and should not be blown out of proportion.
“In my own opinion, I don’t think it’s a serious issue like many people are trying to make it look,” he said. “People can disagree and still agree. It was just a slight misunderstanding.”
Sani further assured that the matter had been resolved and ruled out any ongoing division within the forum.
“I don’t think you will hear anything again. I can assure you, you can’t hear anything again. It has been resolved,” he stated.
He also maintained that if there had been any leadership change, he would have stepped in as acting chairman in his capacity as vice chairman.
“But I can tell you, I was there. I made it clear that we are united and everything is okay,” he added.
