APC Governors Reject “Parallel Structures,” Warn Wike’s Rainbow Coalition Threatens Tinubu’s 2027 Bid

APC governors have thrown their weight fully behind President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, warning against any political arrangement capable of splitting the ruling party’s base a position read by many as a direct rebuke of the Rainbow Coalition led by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

The Progressive Governors Forum issued the warning Monday night at a closed-door meeting held at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja. The meeting was chaired by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, whom Wike had recently accused of orchestrating political attacks against him.

Uzodimma, reading the forum’s communique, said governors under the APC platform had unanimously resolved not to participate in, support, or endorse any alliance capable of undermining Tinubu’s re-election, weakening the party, or hurting any APC candidate at any level.

“The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels,” Uzodimma said.

He added that the forum’s commitment was strictly to official APC candidates, not outside interests. “In other words, the forum has no intention to support any candidate at any level that is not an APC candidate because our candidates who are contesting the election are being sponsored by our party.”

The governors also pledged to personally drive Tinubu’s re-election campaign in their respective states, aligning the party’s full campaign architecture with what Uzodimma described as the president’s expectations and the party’s strategic objectives.

The warning comes as friction deepens within the APC over Wike’s coalition project, which some powerful blocs in the party fear could split votes and damage Tinubu’s chances in 2027. Tensions linked to the coalition have already surfaced in Rivers, Kwara, Gombe, and Cross River states, with governors worried that coalition candidates contesting under different party flags could confuse voters, particularly in rural areas.

Although Wike remains a registered member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he has consistently maintained that the Rainbow Coalition exists solely to secure Tinubu’s second term. Still, the coalition’s rapid spread — from Ilorin to the Niger Delta, and from Cross River to Gombe — has unsettled long-standing political alliances and forced governors, senators, and grassroots politicians to recalculate their positions ahead of 2027.
