Ladoja Calls on Tinubu to Speed Up Creation of State Police Amid Rising Insecurity
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently accelerate the establishment of state police as part of efforts to tackle worsening insecurity in Nigeria.
Ladoja made the appeal on Monday while receiving participants of the Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC 19, 2026) from the Institute for Security Studies (NISS), Bwari, Abuja, who were on a study tour to Oyo State. The visit took place at the Olubadan Palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan North Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Solomon Ayoade, the former Oyo State governor stressed that state policing has become necessary to strengthen community security and support existing federal security agencies.
He described insecurity as the most pressing challenge confronting the country, insisting that delays in implementing state police could worsen the situation.
“I call on the Federal Government to expedite action on the establishment of State Police to complement the efforts of other security agencies to ensure effective community policing,” Ladoja said.
He reiterated that state police would not replace existing security institutions but would enhance their effectiveness at the grassroots level.
Leader of the delegation, Mrs. Ibahim Halimah Zanna, Director of Studies, expressed appreciation for the warm reception despite the short notice, noting that the team was in Oyo State for a week-long academic and field study engagement.
